5 THINGS TO DO INSTEAD OF SCROLLING THROUGH SOCIAL MEDIA | Love, Maisie | www.lovemaisie.com
Social media. It’s a love hate relationship for a lot of us, myself included. I do love that I have the ability to share a new blog post or cute snap of Tyler at the tap of a few buttons, but also, it’s a time sucker.

How many times have you woken up, reached for your phone and begun to scroll through your Instagram, Facebook and Twitter feeds? Eagerly looking out for some crucial gossip you might have missed whilst you were sleeping or maybe you’re looking to see what your favourite instagrammers have had for breakfast.

Some days social media gives me so much inspiration and makes me feel like I can take on the world. Other days, I hate it, it drains me creatively and emotionally and makes me feel pretty crap. “Why don’t I look like -X-“how does she manage to always get so much done?” Just a couple of negative, self doubting thoughts that I’m sure you’ve had too.

Today I have teamed up with my wonderful blogging pal Louise from LouiseChatters to bring you 10 new things that you can do instead of scrolling through social media. Once you’ve had a read here, head over to Louise’s blog to see the other 5!

Have a clear out
We’ve all got one room or corner of our home that we desperately need to sort out but constantly put off. Or maybe it’s your wardrobe that needs decluttering? This is your sign to do it now, today! Well, after you’ve finished reading this post of of course.
Listen to your favourite album
I recently spoke about some things that I’ve implemented into my daily life that help me to better manage my mental health and one of those things was singing. I’m not the worlds greatest(I’m pretty atrocious) but I enjoy it! Whether it’s singing to your favourite jams or just listening, put your favourite album on Spotify, grab a fluffy blanket and your coffee and sit back and enjoy. My favourite album right now is The Spark by Enter Shikari.

Journaling
This is something that I have dabbled in and out of for years but recently I’ve found myself turning to my journals and diaries more often. Why not use your time away from social media to start that bullet journal that you’ve been pinning for? Or dig out some old photos and add them into your current diary. I personally find journaling therapeutic and it’s always nice to be able to look back and see what you were doing / how you were feeling at a certain point in time.
There are no rules with journaling, just remember to have fun and remember that you have full creative direction!

Get out and photograph your local area
Whether you’ve lived in your town since you were born or you only moved there last week, you can’t have possibly seen every nook and cranny it has to offer. You don’t need a fancy camera, just your phone will do(but remember to turn your 3G off or put aeroplane mode on so that you don’t get tempted to upload to the gram!) You might be surprised at what you find.

Learn Something New
Now, there are a number of ways you could do this. I’ve recently discovered that I bloody love podcasts. There are hundreds available for free that are educational. For example, right now I’m listening to “They Walk Among Us” which is all about UK true crime. I know this might not be everybody's cup of tea but you could listen to one about cooking or a foreign language, the possibilities are endless. Or why not sign up to and attend a webinar? Google a topic you're interested in learning more about and sign yourself up!

  1. I so agree with this! The first thing I did when I woke up was to check my phone and scroll through social media, it’s quite frustrating. But I find doing a massive clear out or house cleaning helps because it takes so long for me to do tehe.

    1. I'm trying to go to bed at a set time each night and read for at least half an hour! Although some nights I'm not as good as it because I'm a workaholic! But I suppose working is better than pointlessly scrolling! I really want to get into crochet! x

  5. Such great ideas! It's important to put the phone down and look around. There is so much beauty around us that we miss by being glued to our phones. It also let's us appreciate the things in our lives instead of having FOMO over other's lives .
