5 TOP TIPS TO MAKE WORKING FROM HOME WORK FOR YOU | Love, Maisie | www.lovemaisie.com
You may or may not know that I am a full time work from home mama and self certified #GIRLBOSS and have been pretty much since Tyler was born. It was a tough decision to make, but it's one I'm glad I did. Some days are better than others and some days I don't even manage to switch my computer on, let alone do any work. But today, I wanted to share a few ways that will help to make working from home that little bit easier.

Recently, Furniture at Work launched this campaign video entitled "The Joys of Working Life" which I highly recommend you give a watch, but the aim of the campaign is to highlight that whether you work in an office or from home, there are ups and downs to both. Which brings me to my first point:

Environment
If you've ever worked in an office role, you'll know that your environment is so important when it comes to making you feel productive. If possible, try and have a dedicated working space, even if it means using the dining room table as your office by day and then converting it back to your family's dinner table in the evening.

I'm lucky enough that with the move this month I am getting my very own office, which I'm super excited about, but in our current apartment I made an office space with a desk in our bedroom which I blogged about here. Ever since having my own dedicated work space I've felt so much more productive and "in the zone" when it's time to get work done.

Be Efficient With Your Time
I've never been a great time keeper and have often found myself with three hours of work left to do when I've only got an hour left at work, but thankfully over the years, my time keeping skills have improved with sheer practice and determination. But the best thing that has made me more efficient? Having a baby. Yup, you read right! As I mentioned, I'm a work from home mama so when I'm at work, Tyler is with me.

Of course, I take advantage of his naps but sometimes I still have work to do whilst he's not napping, so I've really learnt how to properly prioritise the work flow and be even more efficient with time than I have ever been!

Clock Out
Now, this is something that I've not yet mastered but I'm working on it! Just because you work from home doesn't mean that you need to be working every waking minute of the day. In fact, you shouldn't be! Working too many hours in a day is counterproductive as you'll eventually burn out and not be able to do any work.. and you don't want that. So the best way to avoid this is to have a set finishing or clocking out time each day.

The reason that I've not yet mastered this is because when Tyler goes to bed at 7.30pm, I start working.. I know, I really need to take my own advice, but it's just a pattern that I've fallen in to recently! Of course, sometimes there is no choice but to work once your little one(s) has gone to bed, but try and avoid it and give yourself some down time in the evenings, your body and your brain will thank you for it tomorrow!

Keeping this in mind, make sure you set yourself full days off too! If weekends can't be your days off due to the work that you are currently doing, make your own weekend! Having a Monday and Tuesday off is ideal if you like to get out and about as Monday's are usually super quiet in the shops, supermarkets etc!

Get Ready For The Day
I used to think that I'd love to be able to work in the comfort of my own home in my pyjamas, but nope, that's not how I like to work AT ALL! I don't know about you, but I feel so much more productive when I've got myself ready for the day. I'm not talking heels and a full face of make up, but for me, getting my morning shower in when Tyler goes down for his first nap and getting dressed, brushing my hair and popping a little bit of make up on really does work wonders for my productivity.

Get Outside
There have been times where I haven't left the house for days at a time and honestly, it does nothing but get me down! Now that it's winter I do struggle to find the motivation to get outside, but one of my resolutions in the New Year is to get out for a walk with Tyler at least once a day on the days that I am working from home.

Not only is the fresh air and exercise good for your body, but it's vital for your mind too. A change of scenery during the working day can really help you to re focus for the rest of the day.

So those are my top tips for making working from home work for you! Are you a home working or office working gal? What are your top tips for being a total girl boss and getting stuff done? I'd love to know what you'd have added to the list!

  2. I agree with all of these! I work from the bedroom currently and can't wait until we move in the new year so I can have a proper office AND a desk! I don't know how I'm going to juggle it and the baby once he's here, but I'm sure I'll work it out over time!
I'm just like you, I can't sit and be productive in my pyjamas, I have to be dressed, and have my makeup on! I just feel fresh and good about myself, so then I can really get some work done!
    Much love, Caitylis x x
